My name is Elyse and I am a colleague of  Steve Solosky, The Traveling Professor. I have worked with him in Paris and will be taking on a couple of his Paris tours in 2012. I would like to tell you all about what I do when I am not in Paris, but in my home area of the southwest of France.

Like Steve, I am American. I have lived in France for over 20 years and have been a guide and art history professor for over 15 of those years. I create visits and tours all over the southwest of France, starting out from Toulouse, a wonderful, beautiful old city in the south-center, half way between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean.

From Toulouse, going out in every direction, there are amazing things to see and places to go. This is old country, filled with hundreds of stone-built medieval villages with towers, castles, town squares and outdoor markets. There are the Pyrenees mountains to the south, with small ancient chapels and breathtaking views, the world of the Cathar castles and Carcassonne to the east going out towards the ancient city of Narbonne and the blue-green Mediterranean sea. To the north,  just a short drive from here, is the famous Unesco World Heritage city of Albi with its Toulouse-Lautrec museum, and one of the oldest, most gorgeous villages, called Cordes, perched on top of a rocky peak. To the west is a world of rolling hills and Armagnac and the Three Musketeers, and then, a little further, the Dordogne with prehistoric caves and some of the best food and markets anywhere in France.  This part of France is where people eat well, drink good wine, visit  beautiful places, hike in gorgeous countryside, and live the good life.

Toulouse itself is, at the same time, an ancient (2000) year old city with Roman and Medieval ruins, and a hub of modernity with Airbus industry and a huge research university.

I create tours, do full day visits and can recommend places to stay and great places to eat. Whether you are a couple, a group of friends, or a big family, I can give you a tour that fits your needs, and can help you out with details that might be difficult to arrange from far away.

Take a moment and go to my website. It will give you an idea of some of the things to see here in Toulouse, and also, just a few of the places I have mentioned in the surrounding area. Check out my blog and some comments about my visits that are on TripAdvisor, and contact me to have a once in a lifetime trip to the beautiful, and still not spoiled southwest of France.
Ask me any questions, Ill be glad to answer them!!

See you soon,  Elyse in Toulouse
