When I give a presentation to a group on traveling to Paris, I start off with a 64-slide PowerPoint presentation of "Hidden Paris". As I mentioned, this group was a little older than the groups I usually present to. They were not so interested in the usual questions of "Where do I stay?" or "Where do I eat?" or "What do I do while in Paris?". This group was more interested in seeing my slides and reminiscing on how Paris has changed as they remember it.
Some of the attendees where absolutely shocked that you were no longer permitted to smoke in Paris. They remember the markets and squares. They talked about how very few people spoke English in the 1960's and were surprised to hear how commonplace English was today.
When I came to the part of the slideshow on Pere Lacahise Cemetery, they were very interested in the celebrities and personalities that were buried there. In fact, they gave me a lesson on the background and history of some of those buried there.
They were very interersted in the Marais area. This brought on a discussion of war-occupied Paris in the 1940's. I was quite impressed by the stories some of the participants told me about the Nazi occupation of Paris - they were there.
They were sad to hear that some of the old institutions like some of the family owned businesses are gone and that McDonald's and Starbucks were moving in. But on the whole, they were quite happy to see that Paris still maintains some of the charm that it had when they visited years ago.

Re: My Paris Talk
the saddest change is that of Saint Germain des Prés around the church - some ten years ago a bliss with the most wonderful bookshops (you still have La Hune of course on the Boulevard Saint Germain opposite the brasserie Lipp) but the intellectual side of the area had little to offer as rents rose badly and big money of big fashion took over. The best part of the area is now around the place Saint Sulpice with several gorgeous book shops and the relaxed café de la Mairie plus the initimable Pierre Hermé patisserie on the near rue Bonaparte. On the rue Servandoni you will find the best secret restaurant of Paris with the restaurant Au Bon Saint Porcain, very few tables very good wholesome French food very reasonable prices and an unbeatable atmosphere the owner knowing everyone and as you leave you know everyone as well. It is not a place for everyone however as very few find it. It is my favourite place as it is for several of the rather wellknown people living in the area.

Re: My Paris Talk
I usually give my talk here in the Northeast U.S.A., but I am happy to travel anywhere to give my presentations. If you look at my free downloadable guide available through this website, I have ideas for the first-time traveler. I have even expanded on that with my guide "The Traveling Professor's Guide to Paris". Also look through my blogs on this site.

Seeking a bit of timeshare relief can be very easy if you find the right people to help you. If you have tried to sell a timeshare in the past, you know that the resale market is dead and the only way to cancel a timeshare is through the right people.
