Siena is a walled-in city, sitting high atop a Tuscan hill. It has probably the best piazza in all of Italy, Il Campo. It's iconic clock tower shoots straight up from the base of the piazza, holding it against the blue sky, giving it a dramatic flavor.
Siena is a walking city. The maze-like streets are narrow. Walking deeper and deeper into the small city, I get more involved in its architecture and beauty.
Most of us in our small group visit the zebra-like Duomo of Siena. The inside of this church is certainly more interesting than the Duomo of Florence as a bevy of statues of Popes look over us. There is also the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, which is not an opera museum at all, but it displays some of the greatest Italian art I have seen.
We finish our day sitting on the piazza, drinking coffee and wonder if we have ever seen a more beautiful day in our lives.

| Italy Video Blog: Romantic Venice
On our last small group tour of Italy, about half the group (4 of us) took a 2-day extension of the trip to Venice. It exceeed my expectations in that it is more romantic than I could have possibly imagined. Venice is one of those unique places on earth because it really is a city built into the sea.
