We started the day by taking the express bus over to Vatican City and spent some time taking in the spectacular views from Castel Sant'Angelo, directly across from St. Peter's Basilica. It was a perfect introduction to our visit to Vatican City.
Because we visit at the perfect time, we were able to get into the basilica right away, despite the large crowds here this week. Our travelers saw the majesty of the largest church in the world and I would say the favorite was Michelangelo's Pieta.
All of us took the Vatican Museum tour which displays the treasures of the church. Of course the highlight was the Sistine Chapel which we talked about for the rest of the day.
A weary group got together nearby our hotel - at an Irish Pub of all places! We had a wonderful dinner and took a break from our Italian meals that we have been enjoying since we got here.

On our last small group tour of Italy, about half the group (4 of us) took a 2-day extension of the trip to Venice. It exceeed my expectations in that it is more romantic than I could have possibly imagined. Venice is one of those unique places on earth because it really is a city built into the sea.
