Sunday is usually a travel day for most of us on the tour. However, about half a dozen of us stayed behind and took a private car tour of the Chianti and Tuscany region. I have done this before and you can read an article I wrote that describes it in great detail: http://www.famtripper.com/reviews/chianti-wine-tour-chianti-wine-tour
One of the nice things of traveling with a group, is that other groups are attracted to us too. We met a trio from Texas whose luggage had been lost since they arrived in Italy (see why I always recommend carry-on luggage only?). I like to think we lifted their spirits by inviting them to join us for dinner at Za-Za's and Garibaldi's, across from the Mercado Centrale, for a couple of evenings. We strolled the streets of Florene, past the Duomo, the Gates of Paradise, and finally wasting the day away at the Piazza Signoria, in full view of Palazzo Vecchio, just sipping a cafe.
I think we had a great group. They got along well, they contributed their knowledge and suggestions, and they were just downright friendly people. Our hosts at the Bellesuite in Rome and the Casci in Florence were gracious and helpful. I always like to select hotels for my trips that are in the center of town. It is just so convenient for seeing the sights anytime of day or night, just by walking out the door.
I need to catch my flight back to New York, but when I get home I will be able to give you a full update and review of our trip.
