We started out all together today with an overview of Florence. We walked past the colorful Duomo, saw "The Gates of Paradise" and went on to Palazzo Vecchio where we saw one of the famous "David" statues. It was onwards past the Ufizzi Gallery and onto the Arno River and the Ponte Vecchio. We walked down Via Tournaboni and into the Palazzo Strozzi. Through Piazza Repubblica and its charming merry-go-round. We were lucky enough to avoid the Jersey Shore crowd and stop for some gelato.
Our travelers are gaining the confidence to go out on their own. Some just sat by the famous Rivoire cafe and sipped capuccino and watched the world go by on one of the most dramatic squares in all of Europe. Some went on to shop and others went on to Basilica Santa Croce, the final resting place of such famous Florentines as Machiavelli, Rossini and Da Vinci, among others.
As I said, the weather has been great. It is sunny, but not too hot. A slight cool breeze blows through the air.
We dined on delicious Tuscan chicken, steak, and pasta tonight. Would I say it was the top meal we have had in Italy. No, but it was tied with the meals we have had in all of the previous nights here.
