The St. Lazare train station in the center of Paris is the perfect point for embarking upon a trip to Monet’s home. After all, this station was the model for some of his most famous paintings. It is a 45-minute, pleasant train ride from here to the small village of Vernon. From there, a bus is ready to pick up all travelers for the ride along the tributary of the Seine river to Giverny.

The home and grounds themselves look pretty much as they did when Monet lived there. The house is well maintained. I always enjoy looking in the massive studio where I imagine him hard at work creating another masterpiece. A The bedrooms are decorated in the style of his paintings. The feel and colors of Monet are manifested in the home.

A walk through the gardens is as colorful as one of his paintings. There are rows and rows of flowers. Red flowers, blue flowers, green flowers, yellow flowers. But further in the back is the pond that provided the backdrop for Monet’s most famous works –the Water Lillies. Yes, there still is a green Japanese Bridge. And a small rowboat – just like in the painting.
The best way I could describe a visit to Giverney is this: instead of looking at a Monet painting, you are in a Monet painting.

I think it is such a treasure to have this home and gardens to visit. If you are taking a trip to Paris, please do not pass up a trip to Giverny.

Re: Paris Travel Blog - A Day Trip to Giverny, the Home of Monet

We took the trip to Giverny. It was the best part of our entire trip. The gardens are just beautiful. It was nice to visit the Orsay and Orangerie before we went to Giverny. Thanks for a great website!

Italy Video Blog: The Palio di Siena
Twice each summer, Siena, Italy is the scene of Il Palio di Siena.   It is a 10-horse race (bareback) that would not be out of the ordinary if it did not take place in the compact Piazza del Campo, the square at the center of Siena.   Thousands of onlookers pack the Piazza and cheer as the 90-second wild race takes place.  Jockeys are often thrown from their horses and the action passes dangerously close to the specators.  It is reminiscint of the crazy scene one might see at the running of the bulls in Pamplona.
