Montmartre is the most popular tourist destination in Paris.  The majestic Basilique du Sacré-Cœur sits on the highest hill in Paris.  It offers commanding views of the city.  The Place du Tertre is a hub of artists painting landscapes of the French countryside and tourist portraits.  

Montmartre was the center of Bohemian Paris.  Toulouse-Latrec, Renoir, and Picasso frequented the area.   Hidden behind the basilica and the easels is the only working vineyard in all of Paris.   Every year at the beginning of October, the vineyard at Montmartre is the center of a crowded and wild celebration.  

Celebrities, street performers, concerts, special events are the norm during the 5 days of the celebration called the Fête des vendanges of Montmartre
Montmartre still retains its rustic, small village-like qualities.   It is also the home of Cabaret Au Lapin Agile, the famous cabaret that has seen the likes of Picassa and Modigliani.  It was the favorite meeting spot of many struggling and promising Paris artists and writers.
