Under blue skies, we started the day by touring the Accademia and David. It is as imposing and impressive as you have heard. Because the Accademia is just 300 steps from our hotel and the Medici Museum is even closer, we were able to accomplish a lot in a short time. Renaissance art and culture is something I never tire of.
We did take some type of a break today. At noon, a driver in a comfortable Mercedes Benz vehicle picked up our small group for a tour of Tuscany and Chianti. The scenery was wonderful and it was great to be off of our feet for 6 hours. We buzzed throug towns like Castellina and Greve in Chianti. We stopped for a wine tasting and light lunch. Before we knew it, we were back at the hotel.
Dinner was at the famous Il Bordino across the Pont Vecchio (a 15 minute stroll through the center of Florence). When all those big 40-60 person tours leave the city for those cheap hotels outside of town, Florence is ours. We dined on Bistecca Florentina, salmon, pasta, salad, Chicken Florentina and more. The nice surprise is that our dinner was under 20 euros. What a bargain.
We strolled back across the Arno bridge through Piazza Signoria and came upon the musicians at Piazza Repubblica. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day in Italy.

The statue of David was much larger than I expected. His physique was better than I thought it would be.

The comments above do not do justice to the tour of wine country. The farm we visited that grows grapes, olives and raises pigs for their own meats was fabulous. The "light lunch" was one of the highlights of the trip for us. The wine tasing was educational and some of the samples of food and sauces were very tasty. A wonderful side trip to compliment the city of Florence.

| Italy Video Blog: Romantic Venice

On our last small group tour of Italy, about half the group (4 of us) took a 2-day extension of the trip to Venice. It exceeed my expectations in that it is more romantic than I could have possibly imagined. Venice is one of those unique places on earth because it really is a city built into the sea.
