day trip to brussels from parisOne of my favorite side trips from Paris is the one I make every now and then up to Brussels.  It's only a short and inexpensive train ride away.  Because Brussels is a business center, there are usually plenty of Brussels hotels offering discounts on the weekends.   I'm often surprised about how different Brussels is from Paris in terms of food and culture.   Take a look at the blog post and maybe it will help you in planning a trip to Brussels.

first time in ParisWhenever travelers arrive in Paris, especially for the first time, they want to get out and experience the city as much as they can, despite how much jet lag they might be suffering from.    This itinerary gives a great overview of the city and puts the traveler in the mood for a delightful Parisian experience.  Read this blog post by The Traveling Professor and get started on an adventure to Paris the right way.

Paris street marketsOne of my favorite activities in Paris, especially during holiday time, is to visit street markets.    Outdoor markets are all over the place in Paris selling all sorts of goods from authentic Parisian foods, clothes, wine, holiday gifts, antiques, and much more.   Whenever I travel solo to Paris or travel with a small group to Paris I make sure that I go to one of my favorite markets.   Read my blog post to find out more about The Traveling Professor's favorite street markets in Paris.

Favorite Sites in Florence ItalyWhenever we take a small group tour to Italy or someone I know comes back from Italy, they always comment on how much they love Florence.  It is truly a Renaissance City with an overload of culture, art, and food.   The historic center of Florence is also very compact making it one of the most walkable cities on any of my trips to Europe.   It seems that just around the corner there is another museum, gallery, or great restaurant.   See the blog post to find out about my favorite sites in Florence.

Small Group Tours to Machu PicchuPeru and Machu Picchu seems to be the trip on everyone's "bucket list" these days.  I was listening to Patricia Schultz, author of 1,000 Places to See Before You Die and she emphatically stated that South America is one of the best travel bargains and spectacular destinations in the world right now.  We took a small group tour to Peru and Machu Picchu in November and it was spectacular.   Take a look at the blog post to get an idea of the type of itineary the Traveling Professor follows when touring with a small group to Peru.

getting from airport to paris city centerOne of the most common questions I get is "How do I get from the airport into the city center of Paris".   There are a number of options for doing this and it all depends upon different factors such as how much do you wish to spend, how fast do you want to get into Paris, are you carrying lots of luggage or just traveling with a carry-on, how many people in your party, and the exact location of your hotel or apartment in Paris.   Take a look at the blog post and it will answer most questions on how to get into Paris from the airport.

Save Money in ParisA trip to Europe can be expensive.    Accommodations usually take up the bulk of the travel budget.  Airfare generally eats up another big chunk of the travel budget.  Meals can be pricey as well as admission fees to attractions.  A wallet can also take a hit by transportation costs within Europe.
Being frugal makes sense, but not to the point where comfort and convenience is significantly sacrificed.   So, here are my Top Ten Ways to Save Money When Traveling to Europe, without sacrificing comfort or luxury:

traditional rome walkEvery time I take a small group to Rome, we spend a day walking the city to some of the more traditional sites that everyone wants to see.   Walking in Rome is perfect because the city itself is a museum of art, architecture, sculpture, faith, and history.  Of course we stop for a gelato or some pizza along the way as well.    Take a like at my Roman itinerary to see how our travelers enjoy a day touring the Eternal City of Rome.

small group fashion tour of parisSometimes I think the city of Paris is a fashion show unto itself.  It seems that Parisians have been born with a sense of style and panache.  For instance, observe how the French women wear scarves.  Notice how the children are neatly attired.  French men can dress casually and still seem to have that sophisticated sense of style.

Italy Video Blog: Sistine Chapel

A highlight on a trip to Rome would be a visit to the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel.   Whenever I take groups to Italy, they are surprised how small and dark the chapel is.
