small group fashion tour of parisSometimes I think the city of Paris is a fashion show unto itself.  It seems that Parisians have been born with a sense of style and panache.  For instance, observe how the French women wear scarves.  Notice how the children are neatly attired.  French men can dress casually and still seem to have that sophisticated sense of style.

Holy sites in romeOf course, Rome is one of the most important Roman Catholic cities in the world.   It is home of the Vatican of course.  One day on our itinerary in Rome is to spend half a day touring some of the more famous religious sites.   The Vatican is not included here since that takes the better part of a day to explore and enjoy.   But in this blog, I have laid out an itinerary that you may wish to follow on your next tour of Rome.

budget tour of parisPersonally, I don't think Paris and Europe in general, is significantly more expensive than anywhere else.   The real villain here is that the U.S. dollar is so weak.  However, there are some easy ways to make a trip to Paris and Europe less expensive.   Whether it be a luxury tour of Europe or a budget tour of Paris, everyone wants to save money.   Read more to find out how to save money while traveling to Europe.

Budget Normandy Invasion Beaches TourIt is "au revoir" for some of our travelers on our small group tour of Paris.   Those catching a flight back to the U.S. are having breakfast at a brasserie on Boulevard St. Germain before heading off.     Some are staying behind for an extra day in Paris, confident of their new-found skills in navigating around the city's attractions, restaurants, and shops.   Six of us are traveling out to Normandy, for a visit to the Normandy Invasion Beaches and the American Cemetery in France.  We will arrive later today and come back to Paris on Tuesday morning to catch our flights home.

Saturday in ParisToday is the last full day in Paris for most of our group.   It has been enriching and exciting.   We have seen and done so much here in the City of Light.   Most of those in our group are confident enough to move about the city and go into stores, shops, restaurants, and museums on their own.   I have spent a lot of time showing people how to use the metro/bus system and how they can easily interact with Parisian locals.   Saturday is the day where individual travelers usually persue their own itineraries for the day, with my help and direction.  They have done some interesting things in Paris on this day of sunshine.

traveling professor arc de triompheThe Traveling Professor's small group tour to Paris is getting into its final days to Paris.  It seems like there is too much left to see and do, though.   One thing that I notice is that our travelers are getting more and more confident on moving around Paris and discovering on their own.  I think that's a great benefit to how our tour is being run.   Travelers can accompany me for the whole or part of the day.    After they feel more comfortable with the bus and metro system of Paris, they can move around and discover on their own if they wish.

Day trip to Giverny from ParisFor me, today is a special day on our small group tour of Paris.   We are taking the train from Gare St. Lazare, the train station depicted in so many of Monet's paintings, out to his home in Giverny, only 45 minutes from Paris.    We already have seen some of Monet's works at l'Orangerie and the Musee d'Orsay and now we will trek out to the scene where many of these paintings were created.   It is going to be an exciting day.   Please read the rest of my blog post to find out more about our day trip to Giverny.

We have been so busy on our small group tour of Paris that I have not had time to post to the blog.   We have been having a great time here in France and our 3rd full day here has been no exception.   Today we headed out of town for a trip to the grand chateau of Versailles, home of Marie Antoinette.    But that was not the only adventure we had in France today.   Read the blog post to find out more.

I don't know where the people in this group are getting their energy from, but they are certainly great travelers.    They want to see everything in Paris and are just enjoying the sights immensely.    The weather has been good, althought it rained a bit today (it rains 200 days or so a year) but most people are wearing a very light, comfortable jacket.  We visited the Rodin Museum today, conquered Napoleon's Tomb, and marveled at the Impressionist treasures of the Musee d'Orsay.   We just don't want to stop and we want to see more, and more, and more on this small group tour of Paris.

Eiffel Tower Small TourThe weather is just perfect here in Paris for our small group tour of the City of Light.   We have 18 travelers with us this week.  They are mostly from the East Coast with a group from the Philadelphia/New Jersey area, Florida, New York, North Carolina.  The contingent from Washington State is the exception.   Most people are in their 40's, 50's, and 60's but two daughters (in their 20's) are traveling with Mom.   On the first day in Paris our group is quite chipper and ready to go and after all was said and done, we had a great day here.

Italy Video Blog: Sistine Chapel

A highlight on a trip to Rome would be a visit to the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel.   Whenever I take groups to Italy, they are surprised how small and dark the chapel is.
